Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time is one of my favorite new shows. Well its not exactly new, but its new to me. I graduated from college in May and I finally had some time to catch up on some TV shows. I was watching TV one night and happened to see the finale of the first season. I was a little confused because it was already halfway through the episode and there was a woman fighting a dragon! Random right? So a few weeks later I saw that Once Upon A Time was on Netflix and I started watching it from the beginning. I was immediately hooked.

Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is a Bounty Hunter living in Boston, Massachusetts. Her son, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore), whom she gave up for adoption 10 years ago, found her in Boston and begs her to come home with him. She drives him back to his adoptive mother Regina (Lana Parrilla), in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine. Henry has this big book of fairy tales and tells Emma that everyone in the town is a character from the book. According to him, Regina is the Evil queen who has cursed everyone, so that they have been transported from the Enchanted Forest to the “real world”. Part of this curse is that they have all forgotten who they really are. Henry tells Emma that as the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), she is the only one who can break the curse.
I love this show because it is unpredictable, the character story lines are never what you would expect. These are not the fairy tales we knew as children, they stories are just a tad bit darker. Throughout the season you see that a lot of the character’s stories cross paths every now and then. Even though the residents of the town don’t know who they really are, their lives in Storybrooke are somewhat parallel to their lives in the Enchanted Forest.

My favorite character would have to be Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). He has an amusing way of talking and a whimsical little giggle, and I love how he calls everyone ‘dearie’.  When he makes deals with people he always has something up his sleeve, a play in his master plan, which we have yet to find out what it is. Although he is the most powerful being in the Enchanted Forest, he does most things in an almost playful manner.

When I describe this show to my friends they usually seem uninterested. I admit the story line sounds somewhat childish, but is an amazing show. I definitely recommend it.
